Beginnings

This blog was started to document my experiments with alternative cameras and processing techniques. 

The name of the blog, The Aluminum Eye, refers to the fact that I started out building pinholes for my pinhole cameras out of the aluminum sheet from pie tins. I found I could drill a nice even hole with a mini drill in a pin vise and get a decent result when installed on whatever camera I happen to be building at the time.

The first pinhole camera I built was made of cardboard from a cereal box taped together with electrical tape. This was sometime in late 2008.

This is an example of what I got out of that camera.

As you can imagine, getting anything out of a few pieces of cardboard and a piece of aluminum was exciting in and of itself, and it really got me addicted to building pinhole cameras.
